Knowledge Mastery

The “teach, test and forget” paradigm is pervasive in nearly all subject areas.

It starts in first grade when students are given a spelling list. The list tells students what they need to know before a test on Friday, but then words are dropped when a new list is given the following Monday. Information is stored only long enough to get a test over with, not to really learn. This pattern is reinforced throughout a child's education, creating a "permission to forget" culture where most people get their college degrees on short term memory. Now, with high stakes testing, a disconnect has been created between classroom grading, based on short term memory, and school performance evaluated on student long term memory. Participants will learn how to overcome this "permission to forget", build teamwork and unlock student motivation for learning.

“The students monitor their own progress which makes them more active in their learning. It's more motivating for them which makes my job even easier!”
