Announcing Summer Institute 2005

We are now offering a 5 day summer institute at Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village, Nevada. The summer institutes will offer a perfect combination of concentrated focus on all four disciplines of GATEWAY TO MASTERY^® and an incredible venue.

Participants will leave the institute fully prepared to implement what they learned in September and will be able to:

n Understand how to manage students rather than behavior

n Understand systems thinking as it applies to their situation

n Learn a framework to continuously improve their classroom environment, teaching and class’s learning

n Utilize effective, unobtrusive, data collection techniques

n Develop objective, easy to understand rubrics

n Learn how to overcome the “Teach, Test and Forget” paradigm

n Enable students to become partners in their own improvement

n Tap into intrinsic motivation

n Engage students through sharing data, discussing challenges and planning improvement with them

n Show students how to better self-assess and analyze their own learning data to better focus their learning

n Acquire and utilize student feedback to improve the classroom system

Incline Village is located on the North shore of Lake Tahoe, just a short drive from Reno and in the middle of unlimited recreational opportunities. Lodging, all meals, passes to exclusive beaches, wildflower hikes led by a world renowned naturalist, time to explore and continuing education units are all included in the price. These institutes are scheduled for June 13-17 2005. We are expecting a very large response and space is limited. Please contact us as soon as possible to get more information.

The web-based Essential Knowledge Resource (EKR™) is now available and has already been expanded from the non-web version. The EKR™ is an expansive collection of information designed to support the Knowledge Mastery Discipline of GATEWAY TO MASTERY^®  This tool is the result of countless teachers wanting an easy to use resource that would save them time and act as a guide in how to write Essential Knowledge statements. EKR™ does just that by allowing any teacher to select, and copy items right out off the web and paste them together to create their own Knowledge Maps. The EKR contains Essential Knowledge in nearly every curricular area and is continually being expanded to include more.   

If you have already purchased the EKR™ in the non-web version and have not received you user name and password, contact us immediately. There are no extra charges for you to begin using it immediately.

Since the publication of Continuous Improvement in the Science Classroom in 1999, Jeff has also written articles for various national and international publications and magazines. Some of these articles are now available at our website www.gatewaytomastery.com/articles/index.htm. Watch for more in the coming months.
