Summer Institute 2006-Now Open for Registration

We are offering two sessions: June 18-23 or July 23-28. If you are not familiar with our GATWAY TO MASTERY™ week-long workshop, it is 5 days of intensive training in the Quality Management philosophy of Continuous Improvement to improve every aspect of the school and classroom. It is not a program or curriculum but a better way to manage learning and organizational practices from the district to right down into the classroom. Participants will receive all the tools needed and walk away with an action plan to implement for the next school year. See more details at our website by clicking here and register early to save $100.00.

Summer Institute 2005 was a Great Success

The GATEWAY TO MASTERY™ Summer Institute 2005 was a great success. Participants came for 5 days in July to Lake Tahoe’s Sierra Nevada College. They received intensive training in all four disciplines: System, Culture, Knowledge and Performance Mastery– and were able to utilize the Essential Knowledge Resource, print tools from the Tool-Kits and walk away with an action plan ready to begin the new year. The feedback was terrific and we made improvements to the schedule and activities to reflect the participant’s suggestions. The experience can be communicated best by the participants.  Here is a sampling of the comments and feedback:

“When you understand the continuous improvement philosophy and how the tools are used to implement that philosophy, I can’t ever imagine going back to any other means of conducting business in the classroom.”

“Great location”

“Amazing accommodations”

“I’m ready to hit the ground running…”

“Through your modeling, we can now see what a positive influence this will have on our classroom system.”

Start planning to attend next year!

Insights From Subbing

In the last part of May, Jeff substituted in an 8th grade algebra class. While they were taking a test he noticed similar questions from several students. He made a quick “Check Sheet” to identify the type and frequency of the questions. His plan was to share these insights with the classroom teacher, but the students noticed he was up to something and asked about it. After hearing the explanation, all were interested in the seeing results, especially one of the most troublesome students in class. This particular student asked repeatedly to see the data and when Jeff told him to stay after class to do so, he readily agreed. After class, Jeff asked him to look at the data and identify the class’s two most frequent questions. The student easily identified them and admitted he himself had the same questions. When Jeff told him if he were the teacher, he would share the data with the entire class and they would work together to understand, the student’s eyes brightened and he said, “That would be cool!”
