Summer Institute 2005-Space AvailableSpace is available in our 5 day summer institute at Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village, Nevada. There have been numerous requests to add additional dates later in the summer, so we will now have another institute from July 10-15th. The Summer Institutes will offer a perfect combination of concentrated focus on all four disciplines of GATEWAY TO MASTERY® and an incredible venue. Participants will leave the institute fully prepared to implement what they learned when beginning the school year.

Beginning this summer, we will begin three new collaborations with organizations to help improve student learning. The three organizations are the North Central Association for College and School Improvement (NCA-CASI), Consortium for Educational Change (CEC) in Chicago and California Charter Schools Association. We will be working with each organization to train teachers and administrators in their member schools. If your school is a member of any of these organizations, watch this newsletter or contact your representatives for information the next workshop in your area.
There are now more articles available for you to read relating to continuous improvement in the classroom by Jeff Burgard. Please go to www.gatewaytomastery.com/articles/index.htm and click on the links there to read the articles.
Jeff has begun to substitute in the local school district when we are not on the road. This allows him to keep in contact with kids and to conduct some research to find out what impact the GATEWAY TO MASTERY® philosophy can have in short term situations. Recently, he was working with three periods of 8th grade social studies classes at the local middle school when he noticed an extremely low homework turn in rate. Instead of resorting to threats or rewards, Jeff decided to manage with knowledge - agreeing upon an aim, working together to improve and collecting data, with a graph on the wall, so students would see their improvement. All classes responded and increased their homework turn in rates significantly by the end of the week. One class increased by their rate by whopping 500%.
